Becoming a Rotarian

A member of a Rotary Club is called a 'Rotarian'.  The diverse range of projects that the Rotary Club of Chadstone/East Malvern put into action require a diverse group of people.   For this reason membership is open to men and women of all nationalities, races, religions and political beliefs.

Rotarians’ common trait is that they want to take action and serve above self.

It is required that a Rotarian is of good character and standing and must;

  • Hold (or be retired from) a professional, proprietary, executive, managerial, or community position;
  • Have demonstrated a commitment to service through personal involvement; and
  • Be able to meet the club's attendance or community project participation requirements

There is no minimum age to join Rotary. A guest may join at any age after they become established in a career and have the time and financial resources to meet all Rotary club membership requirements.

The Membership Process

Membership to the Rotary Club of Chadstone/East Malvern is by invitation only with the guest being invited to one of our meeting dinners held every Wednesday night.  The dinners provide a great opportunity for guests to learn more about the good work that is done by Rotary International and the Rotary Club of Chadstone/East Malvern.

An individual who is interested in membership but does not know any Rotarians can contact the Rotary Club of Chadstone/East Malvern and express their interest in joining the club. In fact many of our current members have done just that.  Click here to start the conversation.

After the guest has attended several meetings and the guest meets qualifications for membership, the sponsor may then submit the name of the guest to the club's membership committee for induction into Rotary.

Responsibilities of Membership

Members are expected to attend weekly club meetings. They must pay annual dues to their clubs (which also covers Rotary district and Rotary International affiliation fees), and they’re expected to participate in local or international Rotary club activities or projects. Clubs encourage members to aspire to club leadership or committee roles.
