Current Cambodia visit

Hello from Paul Rake in Siem Riep, Cambodia – 11/01/18

Some people call it fate, others coincidence or spiritual intervention .......

Sitting opposite me on the plane from KL to Siem Reap was the current District Secretary from Rotary District 3320 in Malaysia.  He is part of a team of eight people including at least 2 doctors and a couple of Rotary PPs who were coming to Siem Reap for cleft palate surgeries. I have their contacts for follow up.

Going to visit a technical school today - motor mechanics plumbers etc- that Sidorn from Lions Club manages.

Open garden fundraiser for Worawa Aboriginal College

Caroline attended an open garden at ‘Ridgefield’ located in Coldstream on Sunday 6th November. The country garden is 1.2ha bordering a vineyard with beautiful views in all directions. It was designed by Robert Boyle in 1997 and although the garden has evolved in response to the climate and the tastes of the local wildlife, the bones of the garden still bear his hallmark today. Elegant walkways lead down a terraced hillside, making the most of beautiful outlooks, yet providing sufficient wind breaks to afford some protection to the garden.  In the formal part of the garden there are neat box hedges, generous plantings of roses, salvias and penstemmon and clipped westringia balls. The roses have thrived so much that some 450 are a picture in spring and autumn.

The open garden weekend was a fund raiser for Worawa Aboriginal College to build memorial garden (see attached) it’s an initiative from Richmond Rotary Club. Richmond Rotary President is looking to extend an invitation to our President to organize a joint meeting. There’s possibilities of joining forces with Richmond Rotary Club regarding the Worawa Aboriginal  Project. The Worawa Students did a special performance to say ‘Thank-you’ for all the support they have received towards the memorial garden, they are hoping to receive around $5,000 towards this initiative.

DGE Bronwyn Stephens on the Rotary International Convention

Getting off a plane in one of the busiest airports in America to be greeted by Rotarians in Fluoro vests was very unusual. This Rotary World Convention we were arriving at was to be Rotary on steroids throughout. Over 130 countries were represented, with over 40,000 Rotarians attending, and so many of them from African and Indian nations. Hundreds of Filipinos, and 26 Aussies from District 9800. Registering for the convention at the airport made life easy and that set the tone for the hospitality.
