Drinking Water to School Children in Vanuatu

The core activity was the installation of water tanks to collect rainwater off the roofs of school buildings thereby avoiding the long walk and strenuous challenges for kinder and primary school students to carry bulk water over some distance.

Our original plan was to work with Progress Pikinini in Vanuatu to install two water tanks. But when this was not possible, our team demonstrated the truth of the adage that where there is a will there is a way some!!!

We changed directions and linked up with the Rotary Club of Santo.

In addition. we leveraged up from water tanks at two schools to tanks at three schools because the local communities provided the materials and people power to build the foundations for the tanks thereby confirming their on-going involvement and commitment to the program.

This project is a further example of how the Rotary Foundation makes change possible. Rotary Chadstone East Malvern had raised some funds but needed financial support and our Rotary District 9800 came to the fore with a District International Grant.
