Water Catchment Project in Vanuatu
Our club is excited to be the major contributor working alongside Rotary Port Vila (Vanuatu) and Rotary Cronulla (NSW) in providing water catchment for Tasiriki Primary School.
Vanuatu is a water scarce country and safe drinking water isn’t available for many school children. Water tanks installed on the school premises is a practical solution, especially for schools without a safe water connection.
Tasiriki school is the only one on Moso Island. As it serves the entire island, some of the children walk for many kilometres to attend the school. Currently the school accommodates 150 primary school students and 28 Kindergarten students.
The project is adding an additional 4 x 1,100 litre water tanks, Guttering and fixtures as well as re-roofing an entire classroom building.
The Rotary club of Port Vila will take the lead in delivering the project. They have secured the services of a project manager who is one of the owners of the Moso Island Resort, an Australian who is used to project managing local operations. He will be on site most days for the entire build.
It is envisaged starting the project in the upcoming August 2023 school holidays, as the school will then not have little Pikinini’s (Children) running around the job site.
We look forward to seeing the project completed this year.
