Safety and Dignity for Women and Children

Rotary Chadstone/East Malvern is leading 17 Rotary Clubs from 10 Rotary Districts around the globe to provide a safe and dignified space for women to bathe themselves and their children as part of a Washroom Toilet construction project

Women and children in most remote villages in rural Cambodia do not have a toilet or a bathroom. They must defecate in the open and bathe in the open either partly dressed or behind a cloth screen.

They are highly vulnerable to sexual and other physical assaults and subject to enormous mental strain because of the fear of attack.

The Rotary family is coming together from Seattle in the USA, Cork in Ireland, Taiwan, Thailand, Melbourne, Sydney Mooroopna and Ashmore in Australia with Rotary Battambang Cambodia to change lives.

We will build washroom toilets that are much like the old Australian outdoor dunny but the above ground structure is built wider so that women and children can also bathe inside a secure facility with a steel framed lockable door.

All up the project value will be $US220/$aust300k.

Stay tuned for more information.
