PROJECTS

RYPEN  (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment)

Student between 15-17 attend a weekend camp designed to develop their potential in leadership and social skill and to have fun.  We sent one student (Blake Haass) this year who enjoyed his weekend meeting other student from different areas. 

We intend to send 1-2 students next year which is usually held in March/April at Malmsbury.

RYLA ( Rotary Youth Leadership Awards)

This will be on 27^th November – 3^rd December.  Ages 17-23.  Applications not open yet.

• Help participants gain a better understanding of their own strengths, passions and values​.  Develop leadership skills.  Provide and opportunity to meet in a supportive environment.  To create a greater awareness of social issues affecting young people.

NYSF (National Youth Science Forum)

We have an agreement with Richmond to co-sponsor a student for this event.

SANTOS SCIENCE EXPERIENCE

We sent two students from Ashwood High to this event at RMIT Hawthorn.

MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly)

We sent two students from Sacred Heart to this.  They performed very well and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.   We are hoping that we can sent four students next year.

Transition

RCEM invites school student in Year 12 at attend this event.  We have four speakers who have been through school, and they tell their story of where they are today in regard to VCE marks, where it led them and how they got to where they are today.  It gives students and insight that you can diversify if you do not get the marks you require, and it is not the end of the world as you can still achieve what you set out to do.

MOCK INTERVIEWS

Ashwood High have not advised on this yet.  We have mock interview with students as if they are applying for a job.  It is part of their curriculum.  They are assessed and marked by members of RCEM.  We usually have about 8-10 members assisting in this project.  It was done by zoom last year.

BURT & AUDREY HEALEY AWARDS

We usually give three awards of $200 each to students whom the teachers choose each year, mainly for drama, dance & music.

This year, we are going to have discussions on further events such as setting up a debate with schools, a little like MUNA but with local schools and more topics relating to this area.  Still in talks.

Business Leaders Breakfast

We also discussed a Business Leaders Breakfast like Glen Eira used to hold.  Sandi and John would head this.  Still in discussions.
